FAQ

A few things people ask first.

What is the personal sandbox?

The sandbox gives you a session key you send as an X-Demo-Key request header. Any writes you make — POST, PATCH, PUT, DELETE — are stored in an isolated namespace that belongs to your key only, and persist for 12 hours. Everyone else still sees the original static data. You can start with a full 60-record dataset, a small slice you define, or an empty slate.

How do I get a sandbox key?

Click "Get your sandbox key" on the homepage, choose a seed mode and starting data size, then click Generate. The key appears immediately — no signup, no email, no account required. Copy it and include it as the X-Demo-Key header in your requests.

Does my sandbox data disappear after 12 hours?

Yes. Session data expires after 12 hours. Keys with more than 2 hours remaining are reused automatically if you visit the site again, so you can continue working without regenerating. When a key expires, the namespace is cleared and the static base data is shown again.

Why is Fake API for Devs completely free?

We want the core tool to stay open and immediately usable for individual developers and product teams. Support, ads, and future premium layers help cover the infrastructure while the main product stays free.

Are there rate limits?

No hard usage caps are enforced for the core experience today. The product is built to stay accessible for development, prototyping, and internal demos.

Is this meant for production traffic?

No. Fake API for Devs is for product development, testing, onboarding, demos, and QA flows. It is intentionally optimized for those jobs.
